For many considering buying property abroad, Australia represents their dream destination, experts have noted. International real estate purchasers from UK are still showing interest in homes in Australia, according to Rightmove.co.uk.
The organisation said this desire to emigrate to Australia was particularly apparent in the winter months when Britons want a warmer, sunnier climate.
As many people return to work after the winter holiday season, many start to consider a change to a more laid back lifestyle in the sun.
Robin Wilson, a spokesperson for Rightmove.co.uk, said: "Australia is a long way from home but, for many people, a move down under represents the classic emigration fantasy."
He noted that New South Wales was one of the most popular areas in Australia, but said that cities in southern Queensland were also attracting attention.
Property sales in southern Australia were 4.8 per cent up in the first quarter of 2009 compared with the final one in 2008, according to figures from the Real Estate Institute of South Australia.
