Increasing numbers of investors are buying property in the Bahamas as a "hedge" against the decline in the economy. According to property firm Paradise Is Mine, owning real estate in the Caribbean nation is becoming an attractive option. It noted that the country has been "insulated" from the economic problems facing other parts of the world and so many are opting to purchase homes there. Buyers who set up home in the Bahamas do not have to pay income tax or corporate gains taxes other than a nominal fee when acquiring real estate. With prices continuing to rise, many buyers are acquiring real estate in the Caribbean country as an alternative to investing their money at home. This comes after the government in the Bahamas opted to make it easier for foreigners to become permanent residents.
