Information on International Airports in Bulgaria
Sofia Airport is Bulgaria’s busiest airport, serving the country’s capital city, Sofia. The airport is signposted from the centre of Sofia, and a free shuttle service links the terminals. Two bus services link Sofia Airport to Sofia, both operated by the Sofia Public Transport Company, running between the airport’s two terminals and the university in the city centre. The services run from 5AM until 11PM and the journey time is about 20 minutes. Several of the bigger hotels provide their own shuttle services to the airport and there is a taxi rank, although it’s advisable to book in advance through OK Supertrans.
There are banks, ATM machines and Bureaux de Change in both terminals. There are also cafes serving light meals and snacks in Terminal 1, while Terminal 2 offers more options, with a restaurant serving a wide variety of international dishes. There are several shops, selling toiletries, cosmetics, souvenirs and more. A baby-changing area is provided in the public area and in the transit hall, and there is also a first aid centre. A 120-capactiy VIP lounge offers business-oriented services, and must be booked in advance. Both terminals are highly accessible to disabled passengers.
Varna International Airport is the gateway to Bulgaria’s Black Sea coastline and is easily accessible from the town of Varna. The terminals are adjacent, connected by a concourse. A bus service connects the airport to the Golden Sands resort via the coach station in Varna city centre. There is a complementary shuttle bus to and from Bourgas Airport. ARMs are available throughout the airport and baby changing facilities are located in the departure lounges of both terminals.
Bourgas Airport is reached from central Bourgas by the number 15 bus, or by the main road out of Bourgas. There are prebookable free shuttles for passengers transferring to or from Varna Airport. ATMs are available in the terminal building, along with a Bureau de Change, a first aid service and a ‘mother and baby’ room in the departures area. Disabled facilities include dedicated parking spaces and wheelchair availability.
