croatian eu membership to boost property market and proceeding well
News Posted On: 29 January 2010
Following a meeting between Croatian President Jadranka Kosor and his Slovenian counterpart Borut Pahor, the latter has agreed to let the former open 2 or maybe 3 of the problematic chapters on Croatia's EU accession before the next intergovernmental conference.
Despite the fact that the Croatian property market has already had a boom on the premise of EU membership, because the international downturn has wiped the slate clean if you like, then Croatia's property market could still see a massive boost from EU accession.
The one thing that property buyers are looking for above all else at the moment is security and safety in their purchase. Thus, having the EU and its judiciary as guarantor behind property purchases will be a major step in putting buyers' mind's at ease. Not to mention the boost to tourism from visa-free travel.
Croatia still has some perfectly beautiful and unspoiled coastlines, with some fantastic property developments on offer.
Meanwhile its path towards EU accession rolls on. This time last year, no one would have believe the progress Croatia has made, or such an amicable meeting between the two Prime Ministers. EU member Slovenia had vetod Croatia's EU accession on the grounds that the documents and negotiations they would enter into during the process would be prejudicial on their long-standing row over borders.
While the border row is still ongoing, Croatia's Eu accession has been proceeding since the second half of last year, when Croatia and Slovenia agreed that this could happen if Croatia put in writing that it would not be prejudicial about the border-dispute in its EU negotiations.
