Places to visit and things to see in Cyprus
Cyprus has a rich history in Greek myth and legend. It was on the isle of Kypros,
modern Cyprus, that Aphrodite, goddess of love, began her life. She was said to
have emerged from the seas at the town of Pafos, a small west coast town home to
28,000 souls. The town can offer the pleasures of its old town area, Kato Pafos,
with important archaeological sites and beautiful hotels and buildings, and views
out across the breathtaking harbour, site of the Ptolemies’ the old capital when they succeeded
Alexander the Great.
But its riches aren’t all legendary, and its glories aren’t all historical. In addition
to its tombs and monasteries, the capital, Nicosia, also has bars and nightclubs,
and many places to hear bouzouki music – and there’s always the chance you’ll hear
the cry ‘Kopiaste!,’ an invitation to join the party.
Cyprus has been famous as a sea, sun and sand holiday destination for a generation
and more. And it’s true, it’s all there. But there’s more to Cyprus than beaches.
The country also offers natural wonder like Aphrodite’s Rock, historical remains
like the Bellapais Monastery and, if all that fails to move you, there’s more than
one world class golf course on the island!
We’ve put together a list of Cyprus’s most fascinating spots, below, to make sure
you get the best trip you can when you visit.
