property abroad in the north west of dominican republic more popular with tourists
News Posted On: 26 March 2009
Prospective buyers of property abroad might wish to consider purchasing homes in the increasingly popular north-west region of the Dominican Republic, it has been claimed.
The area has undergone a number of improvements in the last ten years and tourists are starting to come back, reports news agency DPA.
It noted that this part of the Caribbean island was a popular spot a decade ago when it was known for its low prices but since then its leisure travel industry has slumped.
However, after the period of decline, business is beginning to pick up once more and it can compete with more popular tourist areas such as Punta Cana and Cap Can.
"Our promenade is really beautiful now. Puerto Plata has been transformed," says Jose Camacho, a restaurant owner in the region.
This comes after Dominican Today asserted that the country is still attracting strong tourist numbers, despite a global economic downturn.
It noted that some developers are opting to build new hotels there to take advantage of this.
