france property making the news but not yet the headlines
News Posted On: 21 October 2009
France property has been in the news a lot this week. Firstly the country came first in a Uswitch table of the best place in Europe to live, which would automatically make lifestyle buyers have another look at French property according to pundits.
Then Property Frontiers recommended that the tourist areas in the south of France are the best in the country for investment, highlighting leasebacks with 7% returns guaranteed for 25 years as the best products.
Then a report from Colliers highlighted the stabilisation in the commercial sector of the French property market, where sales accelerated in the second quarter.
There has been increasing coverage of markets like France in recent weeks as the great British appetite for overseas property begins to return.
France however has been slow to benefit from this effect because of reports that it had not yet seen the end to price falls, with prices in many regions holding firm.
However, what we are currently seeing in the prime sector of the London property market is European buyers on a buying spree taking advantage of the price drops and the weak pound to snap up low priced prime properties in the 1-5m bracket.
This is a very real possibility in France in the next 6 months, when the Pound is expected to strengthen on the back of improving UK economic data. The areas to benefit would be the prime areas like the Cotê d'Azure and of course prime units in central Paris.
