French property is currently the second most popular with those searching for overseas property on the Property Abroad.com portal in August. This is the highest position ever held by France.
The portal said that the popularity of France is a reflection of the prevalence of lifestyle buyers in the market, and also the fact that Sterling is finally gaining ground against the Euro.
If you look at Google searches, the France property is the most popular in Europe, but the portal's clientele have always favoured Spain, which had a permanent residence on the top spot until May this year, when America knocked it off.
Another factor in the current popularity of France property, is the massive reduction in prices on the Riviera; lifestyle dreamers can buy into the prestige with a chateau at a fraction of what it would have cost them last year even.
Some reports say that the Riviera hasn't been affected; and that property prices are "holding firm", and that is true to a certain extent. However, when it was a seller's market and the world was rich off a massive bubbling boom properties were being sold for what people would pay, which was a lot if you can get a Russian billionaire interested.
Now it is a buyer's market, and prices are a lot more realistic, sensible and based more closely on the properties actual values.
