france to double growth forecast for 2010
News Posted On: 15 January 2010
France is to double its forecast for economic growth in 2010 from 0.75 to around 1.5% a government official has revealed.
"In a few days we're going to revise upward our growth forecast," Francois Fillon told reporters at his annual New Year's speech to journalists. "I think we'll be close to double our last official forecast," Fillon said.
The prime minister said that business is picking up and that France had come out of recession, but warned that "the international situation is still fragile."
France, the second largest economy in Europe was also one of the first to emerge from recession in the second quarter of last year with a growth of 0.3%. Despite seeing similar growth figure in the subsequent H2, the overall figure for last year is expected to be a contraction of around 3%.
Even growth of 1.5% is very conservative during this year's international recovery when the world's emerging markets are expected to see growth of between 3 and 5%.
None the less, the big thing here is in the revision upwards, because this shows that after 6 months, and at a time when the world is fearful of the strength of the recovery independent to government stimulus, it shows that the recovery is still heading in the right direction.
France property sales to foreigners have been increasing steadily since it became one of the first escapees from the recession. News like this will see 2010 as a good year for overseas property sales of property in France.
