french resort meribel attracts the summer crowd
News Posted On: 18 July 2011
If you mention the French resort of Meribel to anyone it's likely they will think of skiing, as it is best known as being a top ski resort. However, now it is trying to attract people all year round, but as yet it remains relatively quiet as most are unaware of the opportunities offered by this outdoor playground.
During the summer it is the perfect environment for a number of outdoor activities including mountain biking, hiking, climbing, golf, white water rafting, horse-riding, glacier walking and tennis. The resort is right on the edge of the 140,000 acre Vanoise National Park, as well as being close to the Tueda Nature Reserve. The region is absolutely perfect for anyone who loves to walk as there are over 500 km of well-maintained trails which are suitable for all levels of fitness. Nature lovers will also love this area as there are over 100 species of fauna and flora.
The region also hosts the annual Three Valleys Mountain Bike competition which is popular with both amateurs and professionals, and cycling enthusiasts may even catch a glimpse of the Tour de France.
France remains a popular destination for second home owners, and Meribel is ideal for anyone looking to buy a property which can be used year-round, and which has huge letting potential. Lettings agencies in France have said that bookings this year are up by a considerable percentage, as are sales of French properties to foreign buyers. The UN World Tourism Organisation reported that 76.8 million tourists visited the country in 2010, which makes it one of the most popular holiday destinations in the world.
