Information on Airports in Hungary
Hungary is served by two major international airports, Budapest Ferenc Liszt International Airport (previously known as Budapest Ferihegy), and Vienna International Airport.
Budapest’s airport is the larger, with two operational terminals, 2a and 2b. Terminal 1 closed in 2012. The airport links to the city of Budapest by the dedicated Ferihegy High Speed Road, Route 4, a 20 minute journey from central Budapest. Regular trains operated by Hungarian State Railways run between Termainl 1 and Budapest Nyugati Railway Station, a 30 minute journey costing Ft320 (US$1.50). There’s also a bus service, linking Termainals 2a and 2b to the central bus station. A minibus service to any address in Budapest is operated by AirportShuttle-Minibuz, and the company has a desk in the Arrivals hall. Taxis are available from the stand outside the arrivals area. Minimum fixed fares from the airport are set by a zoning system, starting at around Ft6, 000 (US$27).
Banking facilities, ATMs and Bureaux de Change are available in the terminals and the SkyCourt link building. Paid for Wi-Fi access is available in both terminals, and there is a post office in Terminal 2a. Various restaurants and snack bars are dotted throughout the airport, including a pub, a bar and a restaurant serving Hungarian specialities. A range of shops available includes fashion boutiques, a shop selling Hungarian food and wine, and souvenir shops as well as a newsagents and duty free shopping for passengers departing the EU. Childcare and first aid services are available, the airport has disabled toilets and ‘Call Point’ helpline kiosks, and a chapel is available in Terminal 2b.
Vienna International Airport completed a renovation in mid-2012, resulting in improved shopping and dining options. The airport’s terminals are housed in a single building and are within walking distance of each other. The airport is reached by the A4 Airport Motorway from Vienna. There is also a City Airport Train, local public busses and a taxi rank. The airport has banking facilities including ATMs and currency exchange, a 24 hour medical centre and a pharmacy, and numerous cafes, restaurants and snack bars, as well as more than 70 shops. It is highly adapted to disabled passengers.
