Prospective buyers of property abroad might wish to consider purchasing a holiday home in Latvia, where they can get good value for money during their breaks.
According to travel firm Expedia, there has been a growth in interest in destinations such as Latvia.
Jonathan Cudworth, head of product marketing at Expedia, said: "The appeal of less conventional destinations like Latvia and Slovakia stems from their good value for money."
He noted that holidaymakers are attracted to the fact that Latvia still has its own currency and is relatively unexplored by tourists.
Mr Cudworth noted that during times of economic difficultly leisure travellers are being forced to make sure they are "keeping an eye on the purse strings".
Real estate investors who buy property in Latvia could be able to take advantage of the growing interest in the nation.
According to figures from the Office for National Statistics published this month, trips to Latvia increased from 4,000 in 2003 to 50,000 in 2007.
