Malta International Airport is sometimes referred to as Valetta Airprt due to its close proximity to the city of Valetta. The airport is accessible by signposted main roads from Valetta, or by express busses X4 and X5, which run regular services to Valetta from a bus stop outside the check in hall. The journey time is around 25 minutes, and the fare is €1.30 for a ticket allowing use of all local busses within two hours from the time of purchase. An all-day ticket is also available for €1.50. Local busses serve the airport and there is a Malta Transfer shuttle connecting the airport to various destinations in Malta. There is a fixed-fare taxi service operated by White Taxis to all areas of Malta. The fare from the airport to Valetta is €15 for a 20 minute journey. Prepaid tickets can be purchased from a booth in the Welcomers’ Hall.
There is a Bank of Valletta branch with exchange facilities and an additional Bureau de Change in the Arrivals area, and ATMs are also available here. There is a post office in the check-in hall, and free Wi-Fi is available throughout the airport.
Numerous cafes and restaurants offer a range of meals and cuisines at Malta International Airport, and the majority of these can be found in the food court on level 1. Malta International Airport also offers a good range of shops including duty free for passengers departing the EU, gifts and general service shops. These are mostly in the Departures area. The airport is wheelchair accessible, with ramps, disabled toilets and reserved parking spaces, and there is a chapel on site.
