Malta is one of the top 20 destinations for people purchasing housing abroad, according to a recent survey.
A Place in the Sun magazine's poll of more than 1,000 people revealed that Malta was the 18th favourite country for overseas property buyers.
The island has been a favourite winter holiday spot for retirees from the UK because of the mild climate, low-cost of living and active long-term rental market.
Its relatively straightforward legal system and regular use of the English language make it easier for expats to settle in the country.
These factors helped the country place above Croatia and Thailand in the rankings.
Joseph Lupi, managing director of Frank Salt Real Estate, said: "The upper end of the market has not registered a slow down and we are still seeing a growing demand for high-profile developments [in Malta]."
The MaltaHotels and Restaurants Association recently found that the island has experienced a growth in tourism over the last year but that most of the extra visitors are opting for non-hotel and rental accommodation, reports the Times of Malta.
