A Country Guide to Mexico

Climate

The high central plateau that is home to major cities, like Mexico City and Guadalajara enjoys a mild climate throughout the year with cool temperatures from December to March. The summers are quite wet in the plateau with some rainfall every day. The northern Mexico is mostly a desert where the days are hot and nights and cold.

South Mexico is mountainous with a mix of hot and cold climates. The more you go southwards the pleasant the climate becomes. Pacific Peninsula of the country receives scanty rainfall throughout the year. Winters are not too chilly but summers can get quite hot in the Peninsula, but the resorts like Cabo San Lucas enjoy a cool sea breeze. Mexico’s central Pacific Coast remains hot and sultry throughout the year, but the resorts like Acapulco and Puerto Vallarta offers great facilities to enjoy even the adverse weather. The late summer months could also accompany occasional hurricanes. The beach resorts located along the Yucatan Peninsula, including Cancun, suffer more hurricanes.

Required Clothing

The hot weather in Mexico is best enjoyed wearing natural fibres. However, since the nights could get quite cold, it’s advisable to carry sweaters along during the late hours. The daytime should be enjoyed with a sunhat. Mountains demand heavy clothing, as it can get cold, particularly at nights. Mexican folks normally wear casual dresses, but church visits are usually made wearing long skirts or trousers and long sleeves. Some restaurants and theatres may also have some kind of dress code.
