new zealand as good for economic immigrants as oz
News Posted On: 28 October 2011
New Zealand is half a world from here, and is often overlooked in favour of Australia when we consider emigrating. This though, is something that the New Zealand government will hope to change as it targets economic immigrants to increase overseas investment in the country.
The earthquake in Christchurch has caused a skills shortage in New Zealand. As the country undergoes a billion-dollar reconstruction project, the skills shortage will have to be met by overseas construction and tradespeople. It's estimated the country will need around 8,000 construction workers to help rebuild around 100,000 damaged homes in Christchurch, and the New Zealand jobs market cannot meet this demand.
This shortage has led to opportunities for skilled workers looking to relocate, as the rebuilding is expected to continue over the next decade. But it's not just the construction industry in New Zealand which is suffering from a lack of skilled workers; there is also a considerable shortage in the IT and health sectors. Thus, those who choose to immigrate to New Zealand are set to have ample opportunity to advance their careers, while enjoying a very high standard of living.
The cost of living in New Zealand is also pretty favorable, and property prices are expected to see steady growth over the next decade, especially as Australian property is currently being viewed as some of the most overvalued in the world. New Zealand is ideally placed to see good economic growth. Not least because of rapid growth in Chinese investment into food supplies, on worries over irradiation in Japan.
