interest in buying property in portugal rises
News Posted On: 29 June 2009
The number of Britons considering buying property in Portugal is on the increase, according to recent figures.
Data released by property website Primelocation.com revealed that the number of searches for property in the Iberian nation rose by 15 per cent in May 2009 compared with the same period in 2008.
There was also an increase in searches on the website during April, with 12 per cent more prospective property buyers searching for homes in Portugal.
Ann Wright, international development manager at Primelocation.com, said: "Although the market is slow there are still buyers and investors out there with an interest in certain areas.
The country was in the top five most popular destinations for UK buyers looking for overseas property.
Only Spain, France, Italy and the US attracted greater levels of interest among investors and those looking for a holiday home.
This comes after Portugal News Online reported that despite the economic downturn, Lisbon still has a thriving tourist trade, something that might attract investors looking for buy-to-let property in the country.
