Investors could reap financial rewards if they buy property in Lisbon as the city is increasing in popularity.
According to the latest quarterly figures, hotels in the capital took in almost double the amount of money earned by counterparts in the Algarve, reports Portugal News Online.
It noted that the city has not been as impacted on as heavily as other regions by the economic crisis.
The diversity of Lisbon's attractions were cited as a reason for this, with visitors travelling there for both business and pleasure.
With a steady number of holidaymakers and businesspeople travelling to Lisbon, now could be a good time to acquire buy to let property in the country.
Lisbon was recently touted as a top destination by Lonely Planet, which described it as a "seductive mermaid", putting in the top ten locations for this year.
This comes after Expedia.co.uk revealed that six out of ten Britons plan to take all their holiday entitlement during 2009.
