portugal focuses on wealthier property buyers
News Posted On: 07 August 2009
Those buying property in Portugal might be encouraged to learn that there is an emphasis on providing quality real estate for wealthier purchasers looking for a home in the sun.
According to the Daily Mail, the government has been strict about developments in the Iberian nation.
Planning permission is no longer given to properties built on the coast if they exceed three storeys and no more homes will be constructed closer than 500m from the shore.
Developers are also required to consider how much green space is provided, which could mean that buyers are likely to enjoy a high quality of life if they move to a new home in the country.
"Portugal continues to prosper by focusing its appeal on an increasingly upmarket clientele," the newspaper claimed.
The tight restrictions on developments in Portugal and the focus on wealthier buyers could mean the country will appeal to those looking for a reliable investment.
Stability has been highlighted as one of the benefits of buying property in Portugal by a number of experts.
The Independent recently asserted that the country's real estate sector has not been plagued with the problems faced by other European countries.
Connie Vitto of Quadrant Overseas Property told the publication that the Algarve region might offer particularly good bargains to buyers.
