romanian property investment could benefit from infrastructure plans
News Posted On: 02 December 2008
In the run-up to the country's general election, which was held on Sunday (November 30th), the main political parties in Romania promised to improve transport in the eastern European nation.
The majority of the contenders for leadership pledged to build almost 1,000 kilometres of motorways to increase foreign investment, reports Reuters.
Plans put forward by Calin Tariceanu, Liberal Party candidate and current prime minister, will see a four-lane motorway built to service the main EU transport routes running over Romania's borders by 2013.
This will cost around four to six per cent of the gross domestic product every year until the scheme is finished.
Higher quality road and rail could help build on Romania's existing selling points, such as the low cost of labour and economic location, which may boost overseas property investment.
The first official results in the Romanian election indicated that the Liberal Democrat party would secure a narrow win, reports RTE News.
