Health Care
The medical facilities in South Africa are, generally, good in urban areas. However, rural and remote areas do not enjoy decent healthcare. Several hospitals and doctors may require immediate cash payment. Therefore, travellers are advised to carry sufficient cash with them.
The authorities in South Africa strongly advise full travel insurance for all travellers to the country, including the cover for adventure activities.
A leaflet listing health precautions required in South Africa is available from the local South African High Commission.
Travel Advice
From time to time, the Foreign and Commonwealth Office in the UK issues Travel Advisories for visits to South Africa. Accordingly, most visits to South Africa are trouble-free but the global threat from international terrorism can never be ruled out. Therefore, the travellers should take adequate precautions while visiting the places of tourists’ interest in South Africa.
Crime levels in South Africa are on a higher side. However, the silver lining lies in the fact that most of the crimes occur at isolated areas that are not frequented by visitors.
Driving in South Africa could be risky as there are variable standards for different vehicles, resulting in several fatal accidents.
