more tourists head to south africa
News Posted On: 05 September 2008
South Africa is proving to be a popular destination with foreign leisure travellers, a government official has stated.
Accoriding to tourism minister Marthinus van Schalkwyk, the country attracted nearly four million visitors between January and May 2008.
This, he stated, is 7.6 per cent higher than the amount recorded during the same period of the previous year.
Much of this growth was found to have taken place in the European market, while an increased number of US holidaymakers was also recorded.
Mr van Schalkwyk added that China and India led the expansion from Asia, as visitor numbers from each country went up by 17.4 per cent and 16.2 per cent respectively.
The figures are likely to make positive reading for property investors who own rental accommodation in South Africa, as it means demand for their services is on the up.
According to NuWireInvestor, Africa as a whole is becoming more and more popular with foreign property buyers.
The continent's recent economic expansion was cited as a major factor behind its growing appeal.
