south africa will also be a popular holiday destination
News Posted On: 12 January 2009
British tourists are always likely to be drawn to holidays in South Africa, it has been claimed.
According to the Association of Independent Tour Operators (Aito), the country consistently attracts leisure travellers from the UK because of the similar time frame to the UK, which means that travellers do not suffer jet lag.
This could be welcome news for those with overseas property in South Africa as there might be a consistent demand for quality rental accommodation for UK tourists.
In addition, the exchange rate between the two countries is favourable, something which it likely to be of particular concern to UK holidaymakers due to the decline in value of the pound against the euro.
Kate Howard, executive director of Aito, said: "South Africa is a good one because it is in the same time frame, so jet lag is not a problem and the rand's good with the pound."
The Royal Mail Group's Post Office Holiday Costs Barometer, published in 2009, found that sterling is stronger in South Africa than it was a year ago, making it a good option for holidaymakers and putting it second to Thailand in the rankings.
