world cup boosts south african tourism

Owners of rental accommodation in South Africa could be set to benefit from the upcoming Fifa World Cup.
The football tournament is set to take place in the country in 2010 and has already been credited with helping to boost its tourism sector.
Indeed, figures from South African Tourism show that in May, there was a nine per cent increase in the number of British visitors year-on-year.
This bodes well for the future performance of the holiday industry before the sporting event kicks off.
As a result, it is likely that there will be a surge in demand for temporary lodgings across the country over the next two years.
Lebohang Mokhesi, spokesperson for South African Tourism, commented: "With less than two years to go before we welcome the world to our wonderful country, it’s encouraging to see the visitor numbers continue to grow."
The number of British visitors to South Africa could prove to be higher if some of the home nations qualify for the competition.
England took a significant step towards reaching the tournament by securing a 4-1 victory over Croatia last night.
