Travel Advice
From time to time, the Foreign and Commonwealth Office in the UK issues Travel Advisories for visits to Spain. Accordingly, most visits to Spain are trouble-free but the global threat from international terrorism can never be ruled out. Therefore, the travellers should take adequate precautions while visiting the places of tourists’ interest in Spain.
Spain has a higher degree of threat from terror attacks mainly emanating from the radical elements in the separatist ETA organization in the Basque region, especially after the end of 14-months’ ceasefire on 5 June 2007. Moreover, there is a constant threat from Al Qa’ida to the Spanish people as was highlighted in March 2004, when 192 people died and over 1,400 were injured following bomb attacks on three trains in Madrid.
Street crime is another issue that the visitors should be alert of while traveling in Spain.
UK passengers flying to Spain will be required to supply to their airline details regarding their date of birth, nationality, and passport number before flying. This is part of EU-wide measures to improve security all across Europe. For more information, please visit www.dft.gov.uk/pgr/aviation/international/advancepassinfo
