girona property market bucking the trend
News Posted On: 31 January 2012
One of the best performing property markets in Spain is Girona, according to independent research from a Madrid-based company. Last year while the Spanish property market generally saw prices fall, fuelled by increased demand from international buyers from Scandinavia, Russia, England and France several towns in Girona bucked the trend.
Girona has much to recommend as it enjoys a temperate year-round climate, is close to the coast, the Pyrenees and the city of Barcelona, and also has a wide range of cultural and leisure facilities. It is also renowned for its gourmet cuisine.
It's thought Girona will remain an attractive proposition to foreign buyers this year due to VAT currently being reduced to 4%. It's also particularly attractive for British buyers due to the strength of sterling against the euro.
Girona has also just been named as one of the top golf destinations in Spain by Today's Golfer Travel Awards. This makes properties near golf courses especially attractive to investors and especially as long term investments, as they are more likely to retain their value.
One particular development that saw sustained demand throughout last year was the luxury golf resort PGA Catalunya. Apparently villas, townhouses and apartments are being snapped up by investors and purchasers looking for a second home or property capable of producing good rental yields year round.
According to Lucas Fox International Properties, investors buying property near golf courses are more likely to see their investment retain its value, due to the enhanced lifestyle options offered by such facilities.
