where to visit on the costa blanca
News Posted On: 09 July 2009
Palm gardens, quiet villages, sandy beaches and stunning castles are just some of the things those buying property on the Costa Blanca can expect to enjoy.
While the area is a famous destination for its beaches and warm climate, the Costa Blanca has much more to offer than lazy days by the sea.
Elche, the third largest city in the region, was founded by the Moors and features palm gardens that are so picturesque that the city has been listed as a World Heritage site by Unesco.
The Moors have had a major influence on the area and the village of Guadalest, perched on the top of a granite mountain, is testament to this.
Accessed by a winding road, the ancient castle offers spectacular views of the surrounding countryside that could become a second home for those with property abroad in the region.
To get to the city, one has to pass through a tunnel carved in the rock, and according to Benidorm-Spotlight.com, when visitors emerge from it they "seem to have been transported to another age".
Those who prefer quaint to spectacular might like to visit the Villajoyosa - meaning "the joyful town", which features brightly coloured houses lined up along the seafront.
