emerging property markets such as thailand could attract uk buyers
News Posted On: 05 January 2009
Overseas property buyers from the UK are increasingly turning to emerging markets such as Thailand, a recent report has revealed.
A study by the Department for Communities and Local Government found that the number of people buying a home abroad rose by 60 per cent between 2000 and 2008.
Richard Brady, director of Olive Tree International, said the figures showed a growing interest in emerging markets in both Europe and Asia, according to Asia Property Report.
"What the figures do show É is the continuing and escalating interest in buying abroad and not just in established countries such as Spain and Italy," he noted.
The study found that 60 per cent of buyers are between 45 and 64 years of age and only 38 per cent of people own a property in England.
Property Wire recently stated that Thailand is "attractive to many European retirees" because it has a warm climate, exotic lifestyle and low living costs.
