A large number of Britons have purchased property in Turkey and provided a boost to the tourism industry in the country, according to an expert.
Nigel Harris, chief executive at Artemis Travel, said many people from the UK have purchased holiday homes in the country which they and their families and friends frequent.
He noted that airlines have even started to offer more flights to the country from regional airports because of the increased demand for holidays in Turkey.
"There are an awful lot of people who have bought accommodation and actually live in Turkey who have family and friends going out there [to visit]," Mr Harris said.
The expert added that the strength of the euro against the pound has also contributed to the popularity of Turkey as a destination for leisure travellers.
Property investment magazine Jet-to-Let reported in February that Turkey was the tenth most popular destination for investors looking for houses abroad.
