turkey named best destination for 2008 by travel agency

Mucho Viaje, a travel agency in Spain, has named Turkey the Best Destination of 2008.
The firm conducted a survey on the top destinations for tourists from Spain and found that the majority opted for Turkey as the top location.
Ismail Aksel, Turkey's culture and tourism counsellor in Madrid accepted the award from director general of the International Tourism Trade Fair at a ceremony last week.
Some 340,000 Spanish leisure travellers headed for Turkey last year, a figure Mr Aksel said he hopes to boost to 500,000 in the coming years.
Prospective owners of overseas property in Turkey might be encouraged by this latest accolade picked up by the country as it demonstrates the growing place the nation has in the tourism industry.
The gong comes after Abta - The Travel Association noted that Turkey is likely to see a growth in the number of British visitors during the first few months of 2009.
