turkish tourism rise good news for property market
News Posted On: 18 May 2009
Turkish tourism is bucking the trend in terms of British visitor numbers it has been revealed. Last week Write About Property interviewed the Association of British Travel Agents who revealed that Turkey was one of only two countries (the other s Egypt) that would see growth in the number of British tourists this year. ABTA forecasts an incredible 25% growth in British visitors to Turkey for 2009.
This is great news for the Turkish property market, which has always been fuelled by the rapidly growing tourism sector, according to overseas property portal Property Abroad.
"Turkish property is marketed on its rental yields and growth potential because of its low prices. Since the international downturn set in there have been worries about whether property values would grow in the country. So as property price growth is primarily fuelled by its growing popularity as a tourism destination, the fact that tourism continues to grow is great news for Turkish property," said Les Calvert, director of the portal.
"Last year, Turkish visitor numbers of over 23 million were recorded, and closer to 30 million was the forecast for this year. It was a worry that the international downturn would have scuppered this forecast, but it seems that if it does, it will not be by as much as some might have expected," he concluded.
Property Abroad is currently advertising dozens of properties for sale in Turkey, prices starting from £15,500 for a 1 bedroom apartment in Altinkum.
